hey everyone welcome to Morgan’s world I appreciate you checking out my website and if you haven’t checked out our YouTube channel I encourage it we have a video on this hunt will be embedded below along with many other videos on Oregon in the outdoors.
It was opening morning an August day we park the truck at 7 a.m. we hit the trailhead and hiked nearly a mile and a half to a clear-cut that was logged about 2 years ago maybe 4. in these older clear-cuts you’ll notice a lot of berries popping up the berries is what the bear love to eat all fall long it’s a great way to find a lot of wildlife and a lot of black bears and it’s your most likely way to harvest the black bear without the use of bait which is illegal in most western states Haley and I watch the clear-cut for the first hour and a half of light spotted one bear but he ran into the clear thick brush before we could get a shot we kept waiting and eventually hike down the trail even farther when he stumbled upon a bear that was unaware of our whereabouts snuck up within a hundred and eighty yards laid my rifle down in snap I missed him but luckily there’s so many bears around here that my brother and cousin harvested nice bears and gave us some me if you’d like to watch the video check it out I highly recommend a 30 caliber or hilar higher rifle for hunting black bear or a 50-plus pound bow with a nice broadhead use the wind to your advantage.
From what I have noticed they don’t have the best eyesight but they have a very great sense of smell, bears can also hear well but usually don’t get to spooked from sounds because they tend to just think it’s another bear. Western states are a great bet for bear hunting. Although states like Oregon are loaded with bears and you can legally get like three bear per person a year, they are hard to hunt due to method restrictions. Your best bet is waiting in areas that have ripe berries during the fall season.

everybody this is Morgan Murphy with Morgan’s world I want to apologize in advance because I’m using voice to text to type this I’m not a very good writer and this is just the best way for me to get a post out to you guys in a timely matter.
recently this spring I started hearing some Old-Timers talk about yellow perch and how they were easy to catch but also made really good fish fry material. John my brother mentioned that he caught a few at Willow Lake in Oregon and wasn’t even trying to catch that he was going after largemouth bass.after hearing the stories of people just catching bucket loads of fish I couldn’t wait any longer I decided that I needed to try this out.
So you guessed it all we did was we grabbed a bobber a small hook granite with about 2 feet of leader and just use small pieces of earthworms we went to a rocky shore at Willow Lake in Oregon even though there’s a perch in many of the Cascade mountain range lakes and many other lakes throughout the Pacific Northwest. at first we had very little success we fished for a few minutes didn’t get any bites and I just kept moving around the lake and I finally found the spot where there was some nice Rocky structure right off the shoreline flopped my bobber into the water and the barber went down fish on. Shortly thereafter I had caught five fish within 3 minutes I realized I was onto something.I went back to John and Haley who were at the other spot not catching as many fish and brought them to the pocket of fish we quickly caught over 100 perch! it was unbelievable I couldn’t believe my eyes it’s hard to believe that was nothing more than a small hook and a bobber and some earthworms could catch that many fish and they were fun to they gave a good little fight and it was every cast. We moved around another pocket if caught over 200 first. Day it was absolutely madness.my brother John is catching them on a fly rod with small flies and having a blast so there’s multiple opportunities on how you can catch these fish they’re not very picky. this would be the ultimate fish for a young child or a person learning how to fish to catch. once we were done fishing we went to John’s house and started the filleting process and I’m not going to lie it was ridiculously slow and it took forever to fillet those 200 perch I think that we were playing for over two and a half hours we finally got the job done and then we breaded and fried those fish and they tasted absolutely amazing the whole family was drooling and we consumed over 60 in one meal.
at the end of the day this was a great experience and I highly recommend trying it it’s an easy way to get into that fishing zone and catch a lot of Target fish check the links below to help support us and buy equipment that you might need to go perch fishing from the pole to the setup to the fillet knife to the filet table now don’t feel obligated to buy all this gear I’m sure you can make it happen with just a simple pole a bobber and hook.thank you guys so much for checking out this article if you want to see this experience firsthand check out the video below of us first fishing and subscribe to our YouTube channel for future videos in tips like this one also don’t forget to listen to the podcast about this perch fishing trip which will be posted below hope you guys have a great season… Peace!
Have you ever thought about scouting with a trail camera or wanting to get cool photos of wildlife but you didn’t want to spend exorbitant amounts of money on expensive game cameras.I will fear no more I’ve been testing the cheap trail cameras made in China that are available on Amazon and cost anywhere from $39 to $69 and surprisingly they work all right now I’m not saying that there is good as the three to $500 cameras and even the cameras that now use satellite signaling to send it right to your cell phone but if you’re worried about them getting stolen then you can buy three of them for around a hundred to a Hundred and twenty bucks. I used to mint green freezing hot weather and most other conditions and from what I found they function fairly well.
the pros of these cheap cameras is well for one if they get stolen or chewed up by a black bear you’re not out more than fifty bucks.they work perfect for scouting the battery life is exceptional lasting up to two to three months with thousands of photos or hundreds of videos. the clarity of the photos is plenty of tailed enough to see the size of the animal what it’s doing in the video is surprisingly high quality probably 480 pixels.most these cameras just run on a standard micro SD or regular SD card the detection footage for my experience is about 30 ft and works about 20 feet away at night most advertised that they work farther out than that but I would say that’s the premium range.from what I’ve seen most the brands are all the same made by the same manufacturer and put different logos on probably ordered wholesale through alibaba.com and then renamed it sold through other companies as a funnel to make money.
The cons… unfortunately since they are cheaper cameras the quality is not as good as some of the more expensive ones the other issue I’ve had is in freezing and moist weather I’ve had the lens fog up it doesn’t typically happen but you do want to try to place the camera in a tree that has some protection from the elements.the straps that these cameras come with come out to the tree are kind of inferior to that of the more expensive cameras. Most these cameras Can only hold up to a 15 GB card and will not handle anything larger.hello are photos of the trail cameras I use an Amazon affiliate link if you purchase from that link it helps us out here at Morgan’s world and we greatly appreciate it.check out the video below that shows me and my family scouting this year in Oregon using these cheap cameras that I’ve talked about.I apologize for any typos but I am using voice to text to write this article because I don’t like writing on a computer but I appreciate your time. Peace!
On a recent adventure with my brother and my wife Haley we traveled to Lost Creek Lake Oregon in search of smallmouth bass. We used a small bass boat not very fancy at all to get across the lake in search of these feisty yellow-eyed Bass. the smallmouth bass is a very aggressive fish that when you find where they’re located can be very fun and easy to catch in plentiful numbers and fight much Superior to its cousin the largemouth bass.we put in at the main boat ramp and headed right to the upstream side of the lake going under the bridge to the no wake zone and then used micro Cinco worms and jigs 2 cast towards the bank and let it drop towards the bottom the fish would typically hit within five seconds of the worm hitting the water on the drop and sometimes on the slow retreave in.green and Dole orange color seem to work well but I’m sure that any setup would be effective.the fish appear to like the rocky Banks and any kind of structure logs boulders or any sort of place for them to hide.a boat is not required but it is advised due to the steep banks in the difficulty of accessing them by foot a kayak or other small craft would be very effective in catching these fish. the best times of the year to fish them is late spring through the entire summer and into the early fall as water temperatures cool in the winter you will have a much more difficult time catching these fish other tactics could include earthworms under a bobber other dates of this sort or pretty much any smaller size bass bait. Mostof the fish in this Lake are stunted and smaller however a couple of three to four pounders have been caught by my brother and family members.if you want to learn more check out our videos on the internet on YouTube at Morgan’s world and subscribe so you don’t miss out on other local opportunities.please show us that this was helpful by giving us a like or share I hope you have a great day on the water peace.
